Movie Night Wrap-up
On July 06, in Glen Long Park, the Marketo District BIA held its 2nd Annual Movie Night. We had decided on a movie night in the park as a great event that could be fun for the whole family, and really act as a way for members of the community to come out, relax, eat some popcorn and enjoy some entertainment provided by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. We should mention the movie selected was Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. We had originally intended to show The Incredibles and had announced as such, but the powers that be that control movie licensing would not see it so. We also put the entire event together in a very short time span, and were pleased beyond measure when the event was a smashing success.
Turn out from the neighborhood was fantastic, with almost 150 peo ple in attendance. At around 7 o’clock, resident of the district were treated to the sight of a massive inflatable screen being blown up, and a popcorn machine being set up. Despite recent issues with heatwaves and high winds, everything calmed down just in time for us to start the show and it was highly enjoyed by all who came out.
This event would not be possible were it not for sponsors, donations and support from our community partners. A special thank you to our sponsors Lady York Foods and City Fish. A thank you for support and volunteers to IC Saving’s John Pinto, Lady York Foods and North York Futebol Club’s Rachel Kanarek. Finally, to our very own chair Domenico Maiolo and head of our Events Committee head Gabriele Torchetti for their tireless work in helping organize, set up and distribute popcorn to our hungry moviegoers. It should be pointed out that the popcorn was such a big hit we actually ran out, so we will be sure to bring more for next time.
We are planning a second movie night on August 25th, with a possible third movie night September 15. If you are interested in these events, please keep an eye on our social media such as Twitter (@MarkeToDistrict) and the events page on our website.
See you soon!
